Kayaking boats are often brought to a launching site on a kayaking boat trailer with racks.
Before Leaving Home
-Make sure the kayaking boat is secured properly onto the kayaking boat trailer.
-Inspect all lines and tie-downs. Tighten as necessary and replace any that show signs of damage.
-Make sure all kayaking boat trailer lights are operating correctly.
-Test the brakes.
-Inspect the hitch and safety chain.
-Check tire pressure and lug bolts.
While On the Road
-Drive carefully, allowing for the extra length of the car and kayaking boat trailer when turning and passing.
-Allow more time for stopping.
-Watch speed limits.
-Pull off the road periodically to check kayaking boat trailer tires and wheel bearings for overheating. Test the tie-downs and check any kayaking gear carried in the kayaking boat.
Taking a Kayaking Boat Off the Rack
-Make sure there are no obstructions on the ground.
-Lift the kayaking boat off the rack (two people-- one at each end).
-Hold the deck and keel securely.
-Step sideways until the kayaking boat is clear of the rack and there is open ground under it.
-Carefully turn the kayaking boat upright and set it on the ground.
Transferring the Kayaking Boat to the Water
-Stand on opposite sides of the deck or at the first thwart from the bow and stern of the kayaking boat.
-Grasp the kayaking boat under the deck, or at the thwarts, and stand together.
-Lift the kayaking boat with your legs, keeping your arms straight.
-Place the kayaking boat in approximately six inches of water with few rocks underneath to prevent scratching.
