Construction work is almost at an end on what will be one of Bangkok's largest and most luxurious hotels.
Formerly named the World Trade Centre and then Central World Hotel the project now goes by the much, much longer name of Centara Grand Convention Centre at Central World Hotel and will have a tower standing at a height of 235 metres over 57 floors.
The complex designed by Tandem Architects is located in the heart of Bangkok's central business district and is just a short walk from Sukhumvit Road which offers the best of Bangkok in terms of dining, entertainment and shopping.
The scheme comprises of a state of the art hotel due to open 2008. This will offer patrons luxurious accommodation which includes stylish bathrooms along with the usual amenities we have all come to expect from hotels these days.
An integrated convention centre due to open sometime this year, covering an area of 10,000 square metres will also feature. It will be capable of holding up to 6000 delegates in one single pillar-less room which will banish excuses of not being able to see presentations for pillars and sneaky five minute naps behind them. As for the finale to the complex, shopping trolleys and credit cards at the ready for what will be the biggest and most prestigious shopping mall in the area.
The tower itself is almost a figure eight shape, giving it slight curves which continues into the mall below and adds a bit of character amongst the more boxy towers near by. It features a glass double glass façade, which in most places is doubled, but just where it rises above the shopping mall it looks like someone has cut a large V from its sides.
This double façade extends over the top of the tower at its front to give it a crown and conveniently, somewhere for the company to put their logo. Atop the tower will be green space where residents and patrons will be able to go and enjoy stunning views of the city below
