Killzone - Playstation 2(Released 2004)The game Killzone is set in the future of space colonization where the ISA (Interplanetary Strategic Alliance) are being invaded by the Helghast Empire after they recovered from the first Helghan War which a breif bit is shown in the first Cinematic of the game.
The game takes place on the planet Vekta where the ISA is stationed and the Helghast are invading. You are on the side of the ISA and since the orbital defenses failed, the Helghast managed to land on the planet making the ISA severely outnumbered.
During the course of the game you take control of different characters which are given as you progress through the game.
These characters are Captain Jan Templar, Shadow Marshal Luger, Sargeant Rico Valasquez and Colonel Hakha.
The online mode consists of a nice array of gameplay including: Deathmatch, Team deathmatch, Assault, Defend and Destroy, Supply Drop and Domination. All modes are great to play and a few are unique to the game compared to other shooters such as the Assault mode. Early into the game's online play there was many glitches and cheating because of it but this was later on fixed and was much better to play without these issues.
Single Player I find was very well done. Starting off in a big shootout in order to learn your controls and running through trenches. Another thing that was good about the game was that if you used the spy (Luger) you could use alternate ways to get around enemies such as vents.
The graphics for this game i find were pretty decent and some levels involved very detailed areas such as a swamp. Even though it was hard to see crawling through these bushes within the swamp. Overall they were a lot better than some games I've seen.
The audio was decent in this game. Sometimes i found that on my ps2 the game would chop up for a second and screw with the sound but that happened only once or twice throughout the experience. The weapons sounded fresh and i was dissapointed to not hear any footsteps (or was that just me?).
The Helghast talk when they see you or lose sight of you which is a nice touch considering it would help you to sneak around.
Overall the game is presented very well and used the ps2 very good. In my opinion it is one of the best made games for ps2 yet. I will not be surprised if Killzone 2 becomes the spotlight of the ps3 in its time.
